Why we publish where each file stands

Most advocacy organisations tell you what they are working on. Fewer tell you how it is going.

Why we publish where each file stands

Every campaign we run is published with its current stage marked, including the ones that have not moved in a year.

The reason is uncomfortable

Advocacy communications tend toward the present tense and the passive voice. We are working to advance. Efforts are underway. It is technically accurate and tells a reader nothing.

What we publish instead

The stage, the date it was reached, and what has to happen next.
if a file has been stuck at stage two for eighteen months, the page says stage two.

What it costs us

Some discomfort in funder conversations. It is worth it. A donor who can see the honest position of every file has a reason to trust the ones that are moving.

The brief

One email a month.
No noise, just the files.

What moved, what stalled, and what you can do about it. Written for people who care about food justice but don't have time to read a bill.
